Video Large Images Specs / Price Breakdown New, but Hot Rodded This is a brand new Fender® Standard Telecaster® that we've modified with some very nice upgrades, which are detailed below. All original parts are included in the sale. We're an authorized Fender dealer, and this guitar is sold with a full factory warranty. The guitar weighs 7.75 pounds. The Standard Telecasters ship from Fender with their Hot Standard pickups, but we've replaced them in this guitar with Lindy Fralin pickups: a Blues Special bridge pickup, and a Stock Tele neck, but with a +2% wind in order to better balance with the Blues Special bridge. This is a great set of pickups, it retains the original look but with tone that will set you apart from your neighbors. While we were replacing the pickups, we completely rewired the guitar with a ToneShaper pushbutton switch. That's the little black button you see between the knobs. The guitar is wired traditionally in that it has a 3-way switch, and when you're in the middle position the two pickups are on together in parallel, as you'd expect. But push the button down and the pickups are combined in series, rather than parallel, for a louder, hotter output that will push your amp harder. Many players have used a 4-way switch to get this series/parallel functionality, but we've spoken with lots of players over the years who just prefer a 3-way switch over a 4-way, so our pushbutton switch gives you the series/parallel functionality with the 3-way switch you're used to. Of course, we re-wired the rest of the circuit from scratch using a CRL 3-way switch, CTS pot, and Switchcraft jack. And now the guitar sounds fantastic! But what about playability? Tone and playability are the two cornerstones of a great guitar, can't have one without the other. Fender does a fine job with these guitars, but there's no way they can put the kind of time and attention into them that we can, and still sell them for $500. So we perform a fret level, crown, and polish that is absolutely top-notch. Our fretwork is something to crow about, and this guitar plays really well as a result. Finally, we've replaced the stock 6-saddle bridge with a vintage-style 3-saddle plate from Fender, but with Callaham's enhanced-vintage compensated brass saddles. This provides that old-school look and tone, but with proper intonation, so chords play in tune all over the neck. So now this guitar is ready to go. Sounds great, plays great, is great! All in all, a fantastic guitar for not a ton of cash. Bonus: It says Fender on the headstock. It can be yours today, unless you live outside the US (because this guitar cannot ship internationally, sorry!) | | | | Video of actual guitar for sale | | | | | | Click images below for larger versions | | | | | | | | | |
